I had another nightmare last night... One of those ones where you wake up right before you die.

I've had a lot of nightmares since ~~making friends with assassins and terrorists~~ ~~finding out my family is made of terrible people~~ joining the community. I wonder if that's normal.

I'm honestly not sure if the same strategy would work for you... I don't think you're a sociopath. I'm pretty good at compartmentalizing, since I don't actually have a conscience.

I really doubt it. I was lucky because I went to a school where they frowned on that kind of thing, and I was taught to deal with it and control it, but your father didn't have that kind of advantage.

Oh, I'm pretty sure he is, yes. He denies it, sometimes, but even he's coming to accept it I think.

It's not a horrible thing, really. It's just the type of personality he has. It doesn't have to mean he does awful things - that's why I'm trying to teach him the way I was taught.

...but he cares about me. People like that aren't good at caring about anyone else.

I care about him. And about my students and friends at the school. It's possible.

He just doesn't care about everybody else?

Exactly. Think about it - if he did, could he really do what he's done?

...I guess not. I wish he would.

It's not really something he can help. He's not really a bad person, Sherry. What he needs is people like you to show him a better way.

Can I really help him at all?

Sure you can.
